Nothing makes me happier than the arrival of autumn. I live for all the nostalgia of going back to school (even though I’ve been college for almost a decade) and the return of my favorite pumpkin-flavored snack. But most of all, I’m looking forward to saying goodbye to shorts and tank tops and saying hello to all the new and classic fall trends – and of course I’m not the only one.
If autumn is a personality trait, I’ll add it to my list. Every year, I spend a day in the transition of my wardrobe. Sipping on the piping hot PSL, I packed up my warm weather outfits and tried on every sweater, cardigan and boot I owned, expecting many ways I would wear them over the next few months.
This year, after greeting familiar friends, I’ll be assessing the gaps in my seasonal wardrobe, considering which fall trends I’d like to add to my rotation in 2022. There were plenty of grand predictions on this year’s runway, with designers showcasing unique knits and personalized embellishments (especially sequins that dominated the runway), minimalist prints (think of animals and the flowers on your faces) and bold color choices (Barbie pink will still play a role). However, Fashion Week isn’t the only place where I get inspiration when I re-evaluate my wardrobe. I flock to Pinterest and Instagram, and as a fashion writer, I also seek advice from stylists.
In the future, individual and celebrity stylists will share fall fashion trends for fall 2022, and they can’t wait to try them out once the leaves change color and the temperature drops. Get ready for plenty of inspiration, as well as the temptation to grab your wallet.
Power set
At this time last year, sports suits were being replaced by three-piece suits, and now power suits are dominating, and MiKADO’s personal style consultant Jordan Stolch is particularly excited about this.
“The power suit has now taken the supremacy of a few seasons and isn’t going anywhere, which is a big relief for huge matchmaking set fans like me,” Stolch told Very Stylish. “The Fall 2022 power set focuses primarily on tailoring – think structured shoulders, crisp lapels, vests and a waistbanded waistband. For many of my clients – women struggle to make broad shoulders feel anything outside of the ’80s. ”
Luxury leather
Another trend that Stolch is excited about is the sudden focus of what she calls “luxury biker baby leather.”
“[Trends] is a testament to the current zeitgeist of women empowerment, where women unapologetically allow themselves to be seen, heard and felt in ways we have never experienced before,” Stolch explains. “Well beyond biker jackets, this trend is all about incorporating leather into all wardrobe categories. Think pants, blazers, crop tops, and dresses with cool hardware and premium combat boots. ”
Artificial fur, baby
Personal stylist Christina Stein, who is also a fan of leather styling, told Very Stylish that she is looking forward to a softer approach to cooler weather with faux fur.
“Bring drama. Think camp,” Stan said in an email. “You want the coat to be at the heart of the whole outfit. You can also find furry accessories to add some personality to your outfit. The furry Versace and furry tote bag can still make your look even more glamorous. ”
Heavy-duty leather jacket
Nicole Russo, personal stylist and founder of Let’s Get You, wanted to let you know that plastic faux leather jackets only look chic in photos. “Thick leather in many shapes and styles [is] something worth wearing for the next decade,” she told Very Stylish.
“I love the Prada wide lapel double-breasted black jacket, but go to any thrift store and you’re sure to find styles from decades ago that will make you dress just right in the fall. Pair it with your pick of spring mini jackets, and then you’ll have a locked transition dressing.
Statement Shoes
While over-the-knee boots are irreplaceable classic fall pieces, San Diego’s personal stylist and blogger Vanessa Valiente said she’s looking forward to wearing boots that can make a statement — “think of metallic, printed and neon boots.” “
Back to school, but for adults
Whether you miss the days in uniform or crave the aesthetics of your student sister through your adult wardrobe, you’re not alone. By September, I always think of going back to school, but that vibe is a particularly popular fall fashion trend in 2022, and Valiente is one such thing.
“Think of plaid tweeds, ties, pea coats and collared shirts,” the stylist said of the look. “[It’s] all about leaving home and showing yourself to the world. I’m excited about the atmosphere of these ‘dress codes’. This is the antidote to the ‘home’ look brought about by the pandemic. ”
Anything upgraded and retro
Trends from the 90s and Y2K have resurfaced in 2022, but Valiente is interested in a more retro, recyclable, and retro look as it enters the fall.
“After moving away from the retro fad, I personally buy more consignment items than new items,” she said. “It’s environmentally responsible and shouldn’t be a ‘trend,’ but it feels incredibly fresh.”
Pure moments
PSA: Purely not exclusive to summer. In fact, according to wardrobe stylist Chellie Carlson, customers entering the fall have always loved the lightweight, transparent fabric.
“Transparent clothing is the perfect layered piece. The personality bra under the sheer shirt is both sexy and elegant, the perfect way to spice up a date night or dinner with a girl,” Carson said. “Transparent pieces also allow you to show a little skin during the colder months while still being covered.”
Oversized blazer, ever
The writer loves blazers, Carlson told Very Stylish she also shares this obsession, especially in the fall.
“A good blazer is the perfect piece for equestrian and ‘clean girl aesthetic’ trends – but it’s also a timeless piece worth investing in. They can instantly elevate any appearance and perfectly balance the body,” Carlson explains. “Pair your blazer with dresses and sneakers for a fun and balanced brunch look!” I also love them, taking the casual pattern T-shirt and jeans to the next level. ”
Checkered pattern
Personal stylist Soneca Guadara told me there was nothing more indicative of “autumn” than tartan, and I had to agree with her that Scotland’s staple “is a must-have style for the upcoming season”.
“Once the temperature dropped to the ’60s, I would add some tartan tweeds all over my closet,” she declared in an email. “To add some advantage to traditional prints, I like to mix plaid tweed with fur, sequins or silk to give me a new look. But if you want to be on the safe side, it’s worth the fuss to opt for a simple plaid skirt paired with a turtleneck sweater or plaid coat. ”
